Hydrating gel for day-old chicks
Description
POUL3GEL is a greenish cubic gel of 25 grams. It is composed of essential vitamins, minerals, electrolytes, natural antioxidant, natural betaine, water and preservatives.
Objective
The time between the first chick hatches and placement of day-old chicks can go up to more than 72 hours. Half of it is generally due to the hatch window. During this period if hatchlings do not have access to water and feed severe dehydration occurs. Dehydration and the intensive hatching process induce a strong oxidative stress which can result in negative long term effects.
Poultry gel is developed specifically to prevent dehydration, to support rehydration, to prevent and reduce oxidative stress, and to support the development of the immune system and of the gastrointestinal tract.
Mode of action
As a day-old chick contains more than 80% of moisture, water is the first essential nutrient which is needed to maintain cell quality and activity.
A major part of POUL3GEL is composed of water to ensure the distribution of the nutrients.
Supplying the water in combination with the osmolyte activity of betaine ensures a rapid and efficient hydration process.
This in combination with essential electrolytes, essential vitamins and minerals ensures a correct absorption of the yolk sac and a balanced development of the immune system and the digestive activity.
The natural polyphenols present exert a strong antioxidative activity to reduce the negative effects of the oxidative processes caused by the hatching process.
Application
POUL3GEL is to be added in the chick delivery crates/boxes as soon as possible after hatching.
POUL3GEL is meant for day old broiler chicks, day old breeder chicks as well as for day old laying hens. The dosage is depending on the time between pulling and day-old chick placement in the poultry house. Following minimum dosages are recommended:
If duration is less than 4 hours: 0,5 g/doc, between 4 to 8 h: 0,75 g/doc, 8 to 12 h: 1 g/doc and if > 12 h: 2g/doc.

We used to give chicks pelleted feed when they were exported to third countries. However, we found that the chicks consumed very little of it, that dosing was often difficult and generated extra cleaning work. This was more of a cost factor than a real advantage.
